Driving Force were booked to help the spring mill and its customers bring in the new year, traditionally it would be classed as a hard or heavy rock venue, but Ady, the new landlord has a canny head for business and wanted to cater for the wide variety of music preferences of the punters who wanted to celebrate with him. That’s where a band like DF come into their own. There was an age range from (what looked to my ageing eyes) like 16 to 80 with dress codes from strictly ballroom to out n out Goth, some brilliant dancers, Ady has got a good feel to the place warm friendly and a decent pint. I think I can speak with confidence on behalf of the rest of the band in saying that it was p[probably one of our best gigs to date... our rep may not be to the preference of the usual regulars but I think we definitely won them over.. watching two big hairy bikers dancing to the our version of the Beatles classic ' Saw her standing there' was a joy to behold...I did monumentally cock up one song.. bet it wouldn’t be live other wise.... brings to mind the old gag. 'How do you know when there’s a singer at the door, Cos he cant find the right key and never knows when to come in'

My hat goes off to Ady who has the testicular fortitude to get involved in the very unstable licencesee business, and I feel if he maintains his policy of catering to varied tastes his business will grow, here's to him and LL's like him. if i could take this opportunity to reiterate a view I have shared on many a blog in the past. As bands, musicians, artistes or whatever you want to call yourself we NEED blokes like Ady, and we need to be ready to compromise in the name of keeping music live, we need to recognise the difficult times the licensee's are in. We need to help each other.  As a venue you will not find better. Thanks to everyone who made it such a fantastic night, Thanks to DJ for letting us use his PA. Diamond geezer.

post christmas blues

Well, its that time when the excitement of Christmas is ebbing and the feeling of being bloated and full is just about getting through you.

The kids have managed to break half of their presents and the rest are already gathering dust stuck in a box behind the couch.

The stuff on TV is incredibly familiar because its repeated year in year out.

All that’s left of the quality street are all the crap ones nobody likes, the round flat caramel.

And if that bleeding dog cocks its leg on the Xmas tree one more time he will surely be dropped off somewhere on the M66…

Not a lot to look forward to. There is always New Years Eve.. we could take up that invite to go to her mums aunties best friends party, but it will be over 30 minutes past midnight, she will be forcing me into my coat and wishing me all the best whilst bolting the front door behind me, perhaps not.. we could stop in a suppose, watch all the usual tripe that’s on, maybe catch a bit of Jules Holland’s Hootenanny…but we never actually watch it.. its just on..

Or…. we could get our dancing shoes on, get on over to THE SPRING MILL TAVERN, (used to be called the Sandknockers) where the new landlord, Ady, has organised a cracking New Years Eve celebration with live entertainment being put on all night.

The well know rock / pop covers band DRIVING FORCE are going to be belting out lots of well known tunes so you can dance the night away, the £5.00 ticket only event includes free buffet so you don’t even have to cook that night..so come on all you who aren’t sure what to do on NYE get in touch with Ady book yourself some tickets and lets bring in 2009 with a bang, you will also be supporting your local publican to keep music live.

Well it don’t look so bad now..bring on 09 it’s the last of the noughties lets do

It together….
